For this project we are required to define all of the different saving options in our own words. Even through we only use a couple of theses on a regular basis it is important to know what they mean. It is very interesting in my opinion looking at the all the different options and variables that go into saving a document.
PHOTOSHOP (PSD)- This saving option is used for work that is still in progress. In this saving option you will still be able to edit all layers in Photoshop. This is one of the options we use very frequently.
LARGE DOCUMENT FORMAT (PSB)- This extension is used for saving large pictures with over 30,000 pixels. WOAH!
BMP- This extension is for saving images made bitmap digital images. Bitmap images are created off a display device.
COMPUSERVE GIF (GIF)- Similar to a JPEG this extension is for saving images and uses LZW compression algorithm in order to complete the action.
DICOM (DCM)- This extension is used is used for digital communication and medicine. This file is very important for the medical field.
PHOTOSHOP (EPS)- This extension is used for saving images that will soon be printed on a shirt or made into a sticker. We often use this file extension to make some cool things with the plotter.
PHOTOSHOP DCS 1.0 (EPS)- This extension is used to save multiple CMYK colors into one eps file instead of a solid black and white is the original eps file.
PHOTOSHOP DCS 2.0 (EPS)- This file extension is used to export images containing spot channels. spot channels are a type of color in Photoshop
.IFF FORMAT (IFF)- This file has the potential to contain audio, text, or image and is used for sharing and transfering data between different software between different companies.
JPEG (JPG)- This extension is used to flatten all the layers of Photoshop into one image. All the photos of my website were saved as a JPEG and then uploaded and displayed.
JPEG 2000 (JPF)- Basically JPEG and JPEG 2000 have the same function, the only difference is that JPEG 2000 is a updated version of JPEG, but they both primarily are used to flatten images into one.
JPEG STERIO (JPS)- This extension is used to make an images appear 3-D despite there only being two images next to each other. An example of this would be virtual reality.
MULTI-PICTURE FORMAT (MPO)-THis file is used to create two 2-D, JPEG images in order to create a 3-D looking effect. This is often used by television producers and game makers.
PCX (PCX)- PCX is a graphics file for graphics programming. IT is used by fax machines and desktop publishing systems.
PHOTOSHOP PDF (PDF)- A PDF is an electronic images that can be exported and printed. It has all the features of a printed document.
PHOTOSHOP RAW (RAW)- This extensions saves minimally processed data from an image. These files are not ready to be edited or printed yet...
PIXAR (PXR)- PXR extensions are basically just saved animations that are in RGB color and have a gray scale with 8 bits per channel. They are used to edit fictional characters.
PNG (PNG)- This acronym stands for Portable Network Graphics file. It is used to store images and is very similar to GIF images. Most websites store photos as a PNG!
PORTABLE BIT MAP (PBM)- This extensions is used to store images that can easily be exchanged between different platforms.
SCITEX CT (SCT)- This is a file extensions used to store various codes of script such a java-script and VBScript.
TARGA (TGA)- TARGA is a raster graphics file used by various technology companies. This acronym stands for True vision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter.
TIFF (TIF)- THis extension is used for high quality graphics. TIFF stands for Tagged Image Format File.
